The Washington Capitals got a seventh consecutive NHL win when they downed the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 helped by a brace from Alex Ovechkin on Wednesday night.
The Penguins entering the contest on the back of a five-match winning streak, but were put on the back foot when Ovechkin scored in the first two periods and Washington never looked back.

Justin Williams, Nicklas Backstrom and Lars Eller scored the other three Capitals goals while Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist scored for the Penguins.
In other NHL action, the Montreal Canadiens beat the Winnipeg Jets 7-4; Roberto Luongo made 29 saves as the Florida Panthers edged out the New York Islanders 2-1 and the Calgary Flames defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-2 thanks to Dougie Hamilton scoring the equaliser and Jason Demers nailing the winner.
